PJ Ryan has recovered from a broken arm and has been named in the Kilkenny team to to face Limerick in this Sunday’s All-Ireland Hurling final.

Brian Cody has made just one change from the side which beat Wexford in the semi-final.

Large Number of Business Events in July Boosts Singapore’s Visitor Arrivals

In the month of July, Singapore hosted several notable business events, which drew one of the largest number of business visitors to Singapore in a single month, re-affirming the city-states position as one of the most popular Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destinations in the region and the world.

Among the business events that Singapore hosted in July are the 27th International Epilepsy Congress, Herbalife Asia Pacific Extravaganza 2007, World Glaucoma Congress 2007, 18th Wonca World Conference on Family Medicine (WONCA), 2nd Conference of the Asian Society for Pigment Cell Research, Asia Pacific Congress of Bronchology and the 41st Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine, Singapore Pharmacy Congress 2007, and the Third Asia Autoimmunity Forum (AAF) 2007, to name but a few.

Together, these events attracted close to 25,000 foreign visitors, contributing at least Sin$ 40 million to Singapores total Tourism Receipts.

Felix wins Women’s 200

Allyson Felix produced the fastest time in the world this year of 21.82seconds as she defended her World Championship 200 metres title in Osaka on Friday night.

The 21-year-old American star shrugged off the nervousness she showed before the start to win the eagerly-awaited final ahead of Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell and Susanthika Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka.

Felix producing a lifetime best, her first-ever sub-22sec clocking, as she pulverised the opposition coming into the home straight.

Amadeus reports Business Results for First Half 2007

Amadeus has reported its business results for the six months ending 30 June 2007. Total bookings grew by 6.7% to 281.5m, while online air bookings grew by 20.4% and now represent 17.4% of total air bookings. Amadeus claims 32.9% of the market in travel agency air bookings in the first half of 2007, up 2.4 percentage points year-on-year.

UEFA Cup draw details

Favourites Bayern Munich will start their UEFA Cup campaign against Portugal’s Belenenses.

Bayern, who won the competition in 1996, missed out on a Champions League spot after finishing fourth in the Bundesliga last season.

Tottenham Hotspur, the first winners of the UEFA Cup in 1972, will take on Cyprus’s Anorthosis, while their Premier League rivals Everton face Ukraine’s Metalist.

Wariner wins in style

Jeremy Wariner ran the third fastest-ever time to defend his 400 metres title in style at the World Championships in Osaka on Friday night.

After a conservative start, Wariner came off the final bend and powered down the home straight to win in 43.45seconds at Nagai stadium.

The 23-year-old Texan’s devastating burst saw him lead LaShawn Merritt and Angelo Taylor to a clean sweep of the medals for Team USA.

Langham Hotel Auckland wins New Zealand’s Top Visitor Accommodation.

On Wednesday, The Langham Hotel Auckland was awarded the top hotel as well as the top overall visitor accommodation at the Tourism Industry Awards celebration dinner held in Auckland.

This win follows the property’s Best New Zealand City Hotel win earlier in the month at the 2007 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence held in Sydney.

The Langham brand entered New Zealand in January 2005 and has since invested more than NZ$14  million in their Symonds Street property.

Loughnane 17th in walk final

Olive Loughnane was the only Irish athlete in action today at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka; the Loughrea walker finished seventeenth in the 20km final. 

Her position was secured a time of 1.36.00.

The race was won by Russian Olga Kaniskina with a time of 1.30.09; she was followed home by fellow Russian Tatyana Shemyakina who finished in 1.30.42.

Shareholders agree to sell Tralee racecourse

The fate of Tralee’s racecourse at Ballybeggan Park was decided by its shareholders at an Extraordinary General Meeting at the Brandon Hotel on Thursday night. 

The directors of Ballybeggan , recommended  to its shareholders that they sell the race course to a consortium of investors, who had expressed an interest in purchasing the valuable land.
